Update in Pictures

Tings have been crazier here than normal, and I have been remiss in my blogging. And at a time when so much seems to be going on! And I apologize for it, but you will have to make do with pictures taking over my normal 1000 words.

So without further ado, here you go:

Mr. Toad is back!

The baby artichoke (right) has a baby (center)

Garlic scape, yo.

Mr Figgy is in this picture. The blueberries are trying to hog the spotlight, though (per usual)

In the garden and (half) full of rainwater!

So. Many. Berries.

Berrypalooza.

Inspecting the mown meadow.

They are loving the roomy Chicken Palace.

Itty Bitty back with the flock - still no feathers on her back, and the blu-kote hasn't worn off yt. But she doesn't need it anymore. Yay!

Henrietta is still the waddly princess of the waddle brigade. (AKA the Potami)

Strawberries!

The strawberries this year have been phenomenal. They are always good, but this year they are putting past years' crops to shame!

*these pictures are particularly crappy due to being nighttime in-a-camper-with-an-iPhone pictures!

Big berry

Back of the big berry!

Made this for a coworker. There are 6lbs of fresh berries in it. No joke.

Cheepy Update

They keep getting bigger.

Just shy of being 4 weeks old, here they are:

They take turns roosting on the waterer. Point taken, little ones.

They also like to roost in the doorway.

Australorps are looking more Australorp-y.

The Wyandottes MAY or MAY NOT let the RIR back in...

They are actually not the easiest thing in the world to photograph, but anyhoo. You get the idea*. They are getting awkwarder and awkwarder. I could spend HOURS watching them.

*I am ashamed to admit I have a LOT of them from around 2 weeks ago, and not a lot from the past week.

Small Victory

It is the little things in life that just seem to get ya. Both good and bad. Thankfully I had a good one.

Remember this guy?

Behold, ten days later:

Oh yeah baby. That's a baby artichoke. Yupperybob, an artichoke.

I only really planted it (in the teensiest tiniest bed I could find) as whimsical luxury item. Last year I planned and planned and planned and planned and.... and this was my one "we'll just see if it works out" item.

And then when the drought hit and I had to haul water out of my 46-ft deep well to use only on a select few plants. I mulched these artichokes and moved on with a heavy heart.

3 died.

One shriveled into a tiny little thing that the marigolds I planted around it DWARFED by comparison.

When October rolled around, I re-mulched, threw frost blanket over the whole thing and went about my way.

When I uncovered the frost blanket, the 3 dead ones had come back to life. And the tiny one seems to be flourishing!
